For the 30th anniversary of Silver Skate Festival we will be creating a new Folk Trail story. The Festival is seeking proposals for lighting and/ or sound installations to help kindle the magic of the folk trail.
The Folk Trail will be featured throughout the Silver Skate Festival from February 7-17, 2020. The lighting and/or sound installation will be activated throughout the festival dates.
Although the story will only be fully unveiled at the festival we encourage artist(s) to work with this thematic for inspiration:
In our quest through life we all occasionally face a battle with darkness. Sometimes we become lost in the dark. Am I good enough? Can I conquer my fear of failure? This journey from darkness to light asks how we can regain our voice, to sing once again.
Each year, our nomadic performers delight audiences by acting out the story on several nights during the festival. This is interactive theatre at its best and selected installations will be utilized within the Folk Trail. Festival-goers are encouraged to participate by writing down their regrets, unhappy feelings, or sad memories in the Story Telling tent. Every evening, these pieces of paper will be put into lanterns and part of our lantern procession to the fire sculpture installation and set on fire to wrap up the evening.
An Artist Fee of $2000 will be given to the successful applicant. This is inclusive of all material costs.
