Millenia formed in the year 2000 as a young, energetic group of four musicians dedicated to both preserving and advancing Canadian Ukrainian music. Over the past nineteen years, they have performed hundreds of times to thousands of people across North America. 2001 saw the release of their extremely successful debut album, “Коріння” (Roots). This album was recorded early in the band’s history and pays homage to their Ukrainian musical influences. Shortly after it’s release, a fifth member was added to the lineup and in September of 2006, they released their second album entitled “Җиття” (Life). This album was recorded to show the progression of Western Ukrainian music. This album was the beginning of a bridge between the Modern and the traditional styles. It began to attract a greater swath of people to traditional Ukrainian music. Another lineup change in 2011, brought the critically acclaimed album “Браття” (Brotherhood) released in February 2012 and has been reviewed as “Hitting the mark on every musical level”. This album showcases the niche style of Millenia with a polished representation of their music. In 2013 Millenia recorded their first live album “Live On The Rocks”, which was released in 2014, and serves as a “Greatest Hits” package showcasing the band’s current lineup and high energy sound. 2016 saw the band release an EP of new material including a collaboration with Ukrainian vocal group “Rozhanytsia”. This collection of songs gave the band the honor of being the first Ukrainian band in Edmonton to win the 2016 Edmonton Music Awards, “People’s Choice Award”.
Millenia has a wealth of musical experience and an extremely diverse musical background. Their mission remains to produce Traditional Ukrainian music in a modern progressive style. Millenia is currently Bobby Yakoweshen (Drums/Vocals), Johnny Wacko (Keyboards/Leading Vocals), Ryan Pugh (Guitar/Fiddle/Vocals), Shawn Ostafie (Accordion/Dulcimer/Guitar), and Mike Brazeau (Bass/Vocals).
