Online registration is NOW OPEN for the Mammoet Edmonton Winter Triathlon, Northgate Industries Skate Races, Snow Shoe Races, Dead Cold Run and the Angus Watt Advisory Group Kortebaan Races. Visit www.silverskatefestival.org for registration forms and details.
The Silver Skate Festival is a 10-day, family-oriented festival running February 13-22, 2015 in Edmonton's scenic river valley. Rooted in Dutch winter traditions, the festival combines sport (especially skating), arts and culture, and recreation. Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2015, the Silver Skate Festival is the longest running winter festival in Edmonton. Over the years, it has grown in leaps and bounds, from a small skating event to a large-scale, winter extravaganza. Last year, more than 70,000 visitors came out to play.
In addition to the winter sporting events, Silver Skate features a wide variety of free events and activities including large-scale snow and fire sculptures, an epic ice slide, roving performers, horse drawn sleigh rides, live music, winter sports, food trucks and more. Highlights include the Cessco Snow Sculpture Symposium, a Fire Sculpture Installation, “Land of the Golden Apples” Folk Trail, and a Heritage Village in celebration of Edmonton's rich cultural heritage featuring pioneer and aboriginal pieces.
A FREE shuttle runs to and from the Festival site throughout the Family Day weekend.
