VOLUNTEER AT SILVER SKATE!
Volunteer opportunities include assistance with festival recreation activities, monitoring fires, marshalling races, manning info/donation areas, site duties and food preparation. A Volunteer Party and Orientation will take place on February 11 (6-8pm) at Hawrelak Park.
Silver Skate welcomes families who would like to volunteer together (at areas/activities including broomball, curling, hockey, luge, ice slide or fires). Shift structures and lengths will be accommodated to keep even the youngest family members engaged! Anyone 14 years+ can volunteer individually. Benefits include goodies from festival sponsors, warm drinks, hot food, snacks and a great community experience!
Silver Skate, Edmonton’s longest running winter festival, celebrates winter’s cultural and aesthetic beauty for its 25th year. From February 13 to 22, Silver Skate features a wide variety of free events and activities including large-scale snow and fire sculptures, an epic ice slide, roving performers, horse drawn sleigh rides, live music, winter sports, food trucks and more. Highlights include the Cessco Snow Sculpture Symposium, a Fire Sculpture Installation, “Land of the Golden Apples” Folk Trail, and a Heritage Village in celebration of Edmonton's rich cultural heritage featuring pioneer, francophone and aboriginal pieces.
This year's major sporting events include the Mammoet Edmonton Winter Triathlon, Northgate Industries Skate Races, Snow Shoe Races, Dead Cold Run and the Angus Watt Advisory Group Kortebaan Races, a version of the traditional Dutch long blade sprint race.
A FREE shuttle runs to and from the Festival site throughout the Family Day weekend.
