Scott Cook

A roots balladeer with a rare personal warmth, Canada's Scott Cook has distilled the stories collected over a decade of near-incessant touring across Canada, the USA, Europe, Asia, and Australia into straight-talking, keenly observant verse.  His fourth release, One More Time Around, was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award, and its opening track "Pass It Along" won the Folk and Acoustic category in the 2013 UK Songwriting Contest, with UK magazine Maverick Country naming him "one of Canada's most inspiring and imaginative storytellers". He's just released his sixth album, Further Down the Line, and is embarking on a world tour in support of it.  Cook is one of the hardest-working troubadours on the road today, averaging over 160 shows and a dozen festivals every year since 2007.  All the hard miles notwithstanding, he still believes that songs can change your life, and your life can change the world.

"Scott Cook has distilled his travels down into songs powered by a sharp eye for imagery, a healthy dose of humanity, and that unforgettable voice, that at the same time intones the rigors of the road and the most comfortable couch you have ever slept on."
-David Francey, 3x Juno-winning Canadian songwriter

"There's nothing flash about Canada's Cook. He sings his heart and soul, and in doing so lets light flood into your own... He has a good eye for imagery, a gentle human touch, a wry sense of humour, a whole lot of integrity, a warm, rugged voice and a bunch of memorable lines... Truly one of Woody Guthrie's children." -David Burke, R2 Magazine

Rebecca Lappa

A native of Edmonton, Rebecca Lappa is a five-time Canadian Folk Music Awards nominee, winning once in 2015 for her album “Tattered Rose”. She has performed at many major events in Canada, including the Edmonton Folk Festival, Camrose Folk Festival, Winnipeg Folk Festival, and Ottawa Bluesfest. As a two-time winner of its songwriting competition, Rebecca has performed twice at the Calgary Folk Festival. Although traditional folk was her primary interest during her formative years—her album based on poems by Alfred Lord Tennyson was named Adult Alternative Recording of the Year at the 2015 Edmonton Music Awards—since releasing “Tattered Rose”, Rebecca has felt the urge to establish a new musical identity. Part of that includes forming her new trio, Rebecca and the Revelry, with fellow MacEwan University students, Madi Mhyre on bass and Evan Stewart on percussion. Together they give Rebecca’s powerful voice and lush lyrics a rocking beat. The trio has performed at events such as the Ottawa Blues Festival, Secret Street Car Series, Nextfest, Canada Day at the Legislature, The Needle Vinyl Tavern, Sherwood Park Patio Series, K-Days, Edmonton Unplugged, Black Dog, and the Sub Stage at the U of A.

For her latest Factor Funded album, Rebecca teamed up with JUNO-winning producer Russell Broom (Jann Arden, Chantal Kreviazuk, Johnny Reid), who helped guide her along the path toward a new musical vision for “Reckless Heart”. The wise-beyond-her-years singer/songwriter bravely dives into the complicated sea of emotions that define modern romance, and emerges with a collection of songs sure to add her name to the roll call of Canada’s brightest new folk-rock voices. “Reckless Heart” debuted as number 1 on CJSR’s top 30 and #10 on iTunes Singer/Songwriter Album chart. To this point, Rebecca Lappa may be the Canadian folk world’s best kept secret, but soon the entire country is sure to be charmed by her wide-ranging talent.

Nadine Kellman

The self-taught guitarist learned the basics in her parents' basement when she was 19 after purchasing a guitar at a pawn shop on 118th Avenue in Edmonton. Kellman quickly became secretly obsessed. A former provincial rugby player, a knee injury provided her with more time to focus on music. Hanging around Edmonton’s independent shows and open mics, Nadine started her journey discovering the diversity of talent that Edmonton proudly holds. A late bloomer, she didn’t start performing until age 30; after building the courage to share her work at open mics she started the band the Black Wonders. She has released two albums with the support of this band. Her genre bestrides rock, blues, and folk. Vocally a contralto she often draws comparisons to Tracy Chapman and Joan Armatrading. Her songs are about family, the working class, heart break, and how to decide how to tell a lover you are leaving, all performed with a touch of humour.

Maria is nothing but honest, proving to be raw and genuine in her songwriting and performances. Maria discovered her need for music at an early age through classical piano.
