Silver Skate School Program
Get your students out of the classroom and into the great outdoors this winter! We offer a full-day program for Edmonton & surrounding area school groups to enjoy art, sport, and Indigenous culture in a winter setting. The program runs from 9:40 am to 2:00 pm, and it is recommended that groups arrive by 9:20 am (groups may stay later to enjoy the site). The program consists of three 45 minute activity stations, a lunch break, and entry into the Ice Castle following lunch. The program is best suited for grades 3 and higher.
Students will visit a traditional Indigenous winter camp to learn about Aboriginal culture, traditions, customs, and values through stories and activities.
Students will build and create with snow. They will learn about and experience the snow sculpting process by using forms and molds to create blocks, and tools to carve and create images.
Students will have the opportunity to play broomball, jam can curling and hockey shooter.
Ice Castle Tour
Following lunch, students will be able to chill in the Ice Castle to end the field trip. Don’t be surprised if you find your students exclaiming “Cool!” while exploring the labyrinth of icicles and lights!
