Baba Yaga and the Firebird | 4 PM - 8 PM
This year local artist Memi von Gaza created the Baba Yaga & the Firebird Trail at the Silver Skate Festival. In this tale, Prince Ivan and the public are sent on a quest to capture the Firebird who has been stealing golden apples from the kingdom. A series of colourful characters and breathtaking spectacles were experienced along the way. Love is found and lost. Spells are cast and broken. Each participant (the Public) was given the opportunity to create two firebird feathers: one feather to light the way home in a nightly procession, and another to bring as an offering to the flames that rise from the spirit houses, made by the villagers in homage to the Firebird. They released their regrets and find their hopes and dreams once more. Baba Yaga and the Firebird Trail was a component of Night Works in the Park and our fourth annual fire sculpture installation was incorporated into the story line, in the form of the spirit houses to provide a dramatic end to the Saturday and Sunday evening performance.
