A celebration of Edmonton's rich cultural heritage featuring pioneer, francophone and aboriginal pieces. Our Heritage Village has inspired further expansion to include an aboriginal encampment, dog sledding, blacksmithing demontrations, a cabane à sucre, and other pioneer heritage performers. Silver Skate Festival attracts many new comer to Canada and this programming is often their first experience with the rich history of their new home.
Aboriginal Encampment February 16-18 & 23-24, 2013 | 1 PM - 5 PM
The Sun & Moon Visionaries Four Lodges Tipi Camp creates an authentic environment for traditional teachings that provides community with the opportunity to participate in an interpretative and interactive traditional tipi encampment that celebrates the traditional cultures of our First Nation, Métis and Inuit Peoples. Utilizing the wisdom of our Elders, participants are given the opportunity to gain an understanding of Aboriginal culture, traditions, customs, values and ceremonies. All cultures and experiences are honoured and welcomed.
Dog Sledding Demonstrations February 16-18 2013 | 1 PM - 5 PM
Dog Sledding is one of the oldest and now fastest growing sports in both North America and Europe. It offers a unique combination of speed and excitement in an outdoor winter setting. Running your own recreational/racing team or seeing a sleddog or skijoring race is unlike any experience you can have. Festival goers will have the opportunity to meet the dogs and see their teams in action.
Blacksmithing Demonstrations February 16-18 2013 | 1 PM - 5 PM
Festival Goers will have the opportunity to see blacksmithing demonstrations, watch the forging of primary tools of the trade in forging a punch, hammer and tongs. These techniques are the same as those used to produce Damascus steel, forge artwork, wrought iron and tools as well as recreate historic hardware.
Cabane a Sucre February 16-18 2013 | 1 PM - 5 PM
A traditional winter activity that’s sure to delight young and old alike! A taste of Maple Sugar on snow, accompanied by some entertainment and traditional music.
